The Recruitment Market: Lots of Activity, Little Measurement

Did you know? …

  • in the UK alone, there were 28.6 million people in work in March to May 2005 - 13 July [2005 Labour Market Statistics].
  • In 2004 Labour turnover rate was 15.7% [CIPD 2005 Recruitment, Retention & Turnover Annual Survey]. Thus 4.5 million people changed jobs in a 12 month period. Factoring in the number of people who look but do not move or the numbers who look unsuccessfully for extended periods of time it is clear that this number can more than double. The vast majority of these people will use the internet to search for job opportunities.
  • According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) 8 in every 10 organisations use Recruitment Agencies but only 28% of them have a structured approach to assessing their performance.
  • In addition, the market for contract and interim workers is growing and is felt to be in the region of 13% of the working population. This group are therefore continually looking for work.

It was statistics such as these that led to the launch of the new website www.HireScores.com. The site provides independent information and real life feedback on all aspects of recruitment – serving the needs of candidates, recruiters and hiring companies. The site is completely free and easy to use and, as such, I believe HireScores.com will provide a valuable resource to job seekers and employers.
